The Elyria Youth Spots Club hosted a community-wide celebration to help launch a new mentoring program Aug. 23 at the Elyria South Recreation Center.

In partnership with Empowerment for Excellence Behavioral Health in Toledo, The Elyria Youth Sports Club Mentoring Program will focus on providing learning opportunities for children in the community, according to Aric Bowens, CEO of Elyria Sports Club.

“We go out and make partnerships with organizations such as this to try and help them,” said Shari-sha Crockett, director of special programming for Empowerment for Excellence, “and give them all the resources they need to be successful.”

Bowens said the program will be in several communities around Elyria to help provide children extra support in various areas including financial literacy, emotional support, behavior management and more.
